Players teamed up into pairs and were tasked with playing whatever marbles game they wanted. It was stressful in a different way than the other games, but stressful nonetheless. The other faced a heartbreaking betrayal.
DEAD REALM FUNNY MOMENTS SERIES
Two of the best characters in the entire series died playing the marble game (though one ended up being part of a twist I very much disliked). Seriously, every single person who watched this show at least got the sniffles by the end of the episode. This was, I think, the most deeply twisted and messed up game of the entire bunch, and the episode it took place during-“Gganbu”-was by far the most emotionally gut-wrenching of the lot.

The night fight was also stressful because it went full Lord Of The Flies, really tapping into the darkest parts of human nature and letting the contestants themselves tear one another. We knew what was going on and we’d come to like and care about enough of the characters to really worry about who would die next. I think the reason the middle games in the show were some of the most stressful was exactly for this reason. This was really damn stressful! At this point in the games, we’d just started to really come to know a lot of these characters also and we had no idea who could die. That night, fights broke out as contestants murdered each other savagely in cold blood in the dark with makeshift weapons. The more people they killed off outside of the games, the better their chances would be to win. This gave Jan Deok-su and his rabble a clever idea. Gi-Hun protested the murder but the guards paid it no mind, and more money was added to the pot after the contestant was killed.

When one of the players complained that Jan Deok-su and his gang took their food, the gangster beat him to death. The Frontman and his people purposefully sparked conflict between some of the contestants by limiting how much food was given out. Not an “official” game but still very much one of the contests, the lights out portion of the show was definitely one of the more stressful parts. This was also the game in which the VIPs showed up and ruined everything, or at least distracted me enough from the game to make it less impactful. But this one was decidedly different, and in some ways broke the immersion for me. All the previous games were basically games you might have played as a kid at the park. The second reason was simply that this game kind of broke the rules. I didn’t know how, but I figured Han Mi-nyeo (Kim Joo-ryoung) would use this game to take out Jan Deok-su (Heo Sung-tae) as she threatened she would. I figured Sae-Byeok (HoYeon Jung) would survive (but didn’t predict her final death at all) along with Gi-Hun and Cho Sang-Woo and maybe some other character from the randoms. Most of the other characters we’d come to care about were dead, leaving us with just a handful that I figured we’d probably see move on to the final game. There were a few reasons why this game didn’t stress me out as much as a viewer, however.įirst off, I had a pretty good idea by this point who would survive and who wouldn’t based on all the narrative clues that came before. Even with every player behaving themselves (which they do not) the chances of crossing successfully are tiny. The statistical likelihood of making it across all 18 panels as the first players is 1 in 262144. There is no way to tell the difference between panels. Step on the un-tempered glass and you plunge to your death. There are two tracks of glass panels across a really, really high gap. The way the Glass Bridge works is simple. At least with Marbles you can choose to die to save the other person if you want. I think if I were actually playing these games, it would be the one I would avoid if at all possible.
